At the Lazy J-M Ranch I focus on building upon the versatile heritage of the Appaloosa horse - a heritage
proudly carried across the wild ranges and the rough, steep terrain where they proved most adept. Their
diversity as a working horse is hard to beat. While every breeder designs a breeding program to develop
their own "perfect horse," the Appaloosa breed has continually proven to be capable across a wide range of
abilities from haltering to racing; from pleasure trail-riding to endurance; from working a cattle ranch to
everything in between.

Another trait that I work to keep alive is the Indian Shuffle, this smooth, easy
stride was highly prized by cowboys who sat in the saddle all day. Horses with this trait were said to be
sure-footed on the trail as well. As a senior citizen nearing retirement I look forward to many hours on the
back of my horses enjoying this smooth ride. While there are no guarantees, some bloodlines show a greater
prevalence for passing on this wonderful ability; and with the recent advances made in genetic research we may
very soon be able to positively identify these horses in a breeding program.

I also believe in breeding the "whole horse," the wonderful dispositions, the can-do attitudes, the
functional conformation, as well as their colorful coat patterns. With the advances in genetic research
such as undertaken by The Appaloosa Project
the colors and pattern inheritance will become a little less like "rolling the dice." These are truly unique
animals and it would be a shame to loose any of their wonderful characteristics!
